Wulingyuan Scenic Area

When you drive away about 20km from Changsha you will find this beautiful Wulingyuan area with Zhangjiajie, Tianzi Mountain, Shuoxiyu and Yangjia Boundary. This place is unique and famous for its natural landscape which comprises of sandstones, dense forests, deep ravines and its specialty is completed with peaks, deep canyons, flowing waters, thickest forests and mysterious caves. There are around 3000 peaks of quartz sandstones with variable heights and shapes. Among them, most significant are the Camel Peak, the Drunk Stone Peak, and the Five Finger Peak. There are 32 canyons of more than 2000 meters long each and the famous ones are Jinxi Canyon, the Shentang Canyon and the Gallery Canyon. There are around 800 waterscapes in the area too. Yellow Dragon Cave is the most famous among caves and there are beautiful stalactites in these caves. 

Zhangjiajie is a pleasant place to visit with lots of hospitality from people. Also Tianzi Mountain aka Heaven’s Son Mount is found the northwest of Wulingyuan and stands at a position of tripartite confrontation with Zhangjiajie National Park, and Suoxi Valley. There are about 100 naatural platforms for sightseeing, than 2000 stone peaks and dozens of waterfalls and springs. 

The Yellow Dragon Cave, another attraction in here has four layers and covers an area about 20km2. It rises up to a height of 100m and the cave is composed of one storage, two streams, three waterfalls, four pools, 13 platforms and 46 corridors, as well as countless stalagmites. Among all stalactites in the Yellow Dragon Cave, the most miraculous are Ding Hai Shen Zhen and Long Wang Bao Zuo. Ding Hai Shen Zhen stands 19.2 meters high at a diameter of 10 cm.

About 2km in south of Suoxi Town is the Baofeng Lake which consists of a deep and serene valley. The most distinctive spots include Gao Xia Ping Hu, Ying Wo Gu Zhai, Jue Bi Fei Pu and Yixiantian Valley. Maoyan River a 50-kilometer river lying in the upstream area of Li River in Yongding District of Zhangjiajie City. It is also called Rock River because of rocky cliffs on both sides of the river. It is most famous for its green mountains along the river, clear water, queer rocks, many shoals and rapids. With more than 30 scenic spots along the river, one can see many waterfalls on both sides of the river but Shuidongzi Water Fall is the most magnificent one of all. Water pours out from a cave 70 meters above the river and formed a huge several decameters wide before it falls scattered into the river. It is no wonder that visitors enjoy lingering about such terrific mountains and rivers.

If you are planning to visit the area, I must say there are good foods in these villages you can try. Local food consists of local Tujia food, like the sour fish, loaches with bean curd, and the stewed chicken with Gastrodia elata soup. Accommodation is quite comfortable with lots of different choices of hotels in the area.
